Here’s what happened. Some human being kept playing the same game for a decade and then posted screenshots to Reddit along with a narrative explanation of where the gameworld stands. Lycerius, the user, begins his history of the future:Read more.
The world is a hellish nightmare of suffering and devastation.
There are 3 remaining super nations in the year 3991 A.D, each competing for the scant resources left on the planet after dozens of nuclear wars have rendered vast swaths of the world uninhabitable wastelands.
NYRB is going to launch an eBook-only imprint. This raises the question, can it be a good book even if it doesn’t have that iconic spine design? (Yes, of course it can.)

We’re about to enter a world where there are more tablets and smart phones than PCs. If you’re in the mobile advertising business, your rocket ship takes off in five, four, three …
Today in “things that were passed around the internet but weren’t true”
I hate to break everyone’s heart on this, but if the ounces come close to the lines it is completely by coincidence.
Especially true for the 1 Ounce line, which is actually what is called a bottom stack shoulder or de-nest feature. This is what the next cup in a stack sits on, so they can easily pull apart by creating an air gap between the side walls. The height of this stack shoulder would have been completely determined by how much air was between the side walls, not to create a 1 Ounce marker.
The other rings are for additional strength in the side walls to keep them from bowing inward or outward (to help in aiding hoop stress), and keep them straight once the cup is formed.
i.e. The top rim of the cup is rolled to give it good “hoop strength”.
There is your boring engineering/design lesson for the month.
